Title: Spanish Dancer: Wavelength Snorkeling Great Barrier Reef.AVI

Added: Feb 1, 2010

Author: WavelengthIII

Duration: 1:1

Description:
The famous Spanish Dancer nudibranch doing what this species of nudibranch is famous for; free swimming. Video taken on snorkel by Chris Fluffy Jones. We believe the best snorkeling in the world is a coral reef adventure on a Great Barrier Reef snorkeling trip with Wavelength Marine Charters because coral reefs on the great barrier reef australia are perfect for snorkeling rather than scuba diving due to their shallow nature. Great barrier reef diving is more for the scuba diving experience rather than seeing coral reefs. Unlike snorkeling in hawaii or snorkeling in cozumel or snorkeling in bahamas or snorkeling in sharm el sheikh, expert snorkeling tips and snorkeling how to information is given on the boat. Snorkelling great barrier reef is the best snorkeling with sharks, snorkeling with dolphins, snorkeling with turtles and snorkeling with stingrays. Its like snorkelling in a coral reef aquarium.

Dec 5, 2012 - Spanish dancing music would go well with the video.

Chris Jones Says:

Dec 5, 2012 - Actually, like all nudibranchs, Spanish Dancers are bottom dwellers. This species only swims like this if has been washed off the bottom by current or is under stress so makes this move to somewhere better. Thanks for posting.

Chris Jones Says:

Dec 5, 2012 - Yes, as a rule, all nudibranchs are toxic due to their diet of corals and other stinging creatures - their toxins saturate the flesh of the nudibranch. This of course explains why nudibranchs are so vividly coloured and patterned - as a warning of their toxicity. Thanks for posting.

Chris Jones Says:

Dec 5, 2012 - No. Flatworms are...well... worms ! Whereas nudibranchs are molluscs (snails, slugs and clams). So while nudibranchs have pretty good healing properties, if cut in half they will die. In fact only some flatworms have that degree of regeneration as well, depends on where/how you dissect them. But no, nudibranchs are absolutely not flat worms. Thanks for posting.

Dec 5, 2012 - Exactly right, they can only swim for short times as their normal rate of movement along the sea floor is very slow. Thanks for posting.

Jan 5, 2013 - This is my favorite Spanish Dancer video. May I please use it in my school project about nudibranchs? We are supposed to include a video but I wasn't sure about the copyrighting and everything so I figured it was just safer to ask.
