Title: Hiking the Irvine Creek Gorge Trail, Elora Ontario Canada
Added: Jan 23, 2012
Author: Don Drews
Duration: 3:57
Description:
Located in Silurian dolostone strata formed from coral reefs in ancient shallow seas 440 million years ago, the Irvine Creek and Grand River gorges form the Elora Gorge Conservation Area. These were eroded by glacial meltwaters which occurred during the Wisconsinian Ice Age ending about 12500 years ago. Geological surveys indicate four other now-buried gorges criss-crossing the area, formed during previous glacial episodes. This slide show features images of the picturesque David Street Bridge, Lover's Leap, and the Elora caves along the Grand River. Accompanied by "Toys Not Ties" by Nightnoise, quotes by Abraham Lincoln and Confucius provide a thematic context for the images.
